Funds will be awarded the 30th of May.

In 2008, the United Nations recognized World Ocean Day on June 8, as a time to celebrate the immense bodies of water that makes up roughly 70 percent of the surface of the Earth. The goal of the day is to promote conservation efforts and engage activities in preserving these five crucial areas – the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Artic, and Southern (Antarctic) Oceans and their inhabitants. Every year on June 8 on every Continent around the world, events are held in honor of the Ocean.

The Pacific Ocean is surrounded by volcanoes known collectively as the Ring of Fire. These areas are responsible for the frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. This region is home to 75 percent of the worlds active volcanoes and 90 percent of its earthquakes

Madagascar, Indian Ocean

Madagascar, Indian Ocean, is an Island of staggering biological diversity. When it was ripped Away from Africa 165 million years ago, animals and plants continued to evolve without Interference from outside. About 10,000 species of plant exist only in Madagascar. It is 1,000 miles long.

The great Barrier Reef, Australia

The great Barrier Reef, Australia, extend more than 1,250 miles. It comprises around 2,900 reefs. The area of shallow coastal waters, where a staggering diversity of species thrives, is biologically, geologically, and scenically one of the greatest wonders of the world. 17 million years ago Reef-building corals began inhabiting Australia’s eastern coastal waters.
